Mock driving test
Experience test conditions before the real thing.
A mock driving test gives you the opportunity to experience a more test-like drive with less instructor support. It can help us see how independently you drive and whether anything changes when the usual conversation, prompts and guidance are reduced.
What to expect
A mock test can include many of the same elements you may experience during the practical driving test, such as:
- Independent driving using a sat-nav or road signs.
- Following directions without coaching or prompts.
- Different types of roads, junctions and roundabouts.
- One reversing manoeuvre.
- An emergency stop where appropriate.
- Show-me and tell-me vehicle-safety questions.
- Driving independently while I observe and assess your performance as an examiner would.
The route and situations will vary depending on traffic, location and what is appropriate on the day.
More than pass or fail
The most useful part of a mock test is not simply whether the drive would have resulted in a pass or fail.
We use it to identify patterns in your driving, how you respond when something goes wrong and whether you can continue safely without allowing one mistake to affect the rest of the drive.
What happens afterwards
After the drive, we will review what went well and anything that needs more work. This gives us useful information for planning your next lessons and deciding which areas need attention before your practical test.
A mock test is one part of preparation rather than a guarantee of how you will perform on test day.
