Automatic driving lessons & test preparation in Crawley
Crawley Test Centre
Crawley is a popular choice for learners from Crawley, East Grinstead, Lingfield, Crawley Down, Forest Row, Horley and Horsham.
Crawley has a good mix of driving environments. You’ll find dual carriageways, mini-roundabouts, multi-lane roads and larger roundabouts, including spiral layouts, alongside quieter residential areas and slower local roads.
It can be a faster-moving place to drive, but the variety also makes it a very useful area for developing confidence
Where your lessons begin
For complete beginners, the first few lessons can usually start closer to home while you get comfortable with the car and develop the basic controls.
As your experience grows, more of the lesson time will move towards Crawley and the area around the test centre.
Some things can still be practised locally when it makes better use of your lesson time — parking is a good example.
Coming to Crawley from surrounding areas
East Grinstead
East Grinstead gives us plenty to work with locally, including town driving, lane changes, mini-roundabouts and a good variety of junctions. It works well for the earlier stages before the main focus moves towards Crawley.
Lingfield
Lingfield can be useful for the first stages of learning, with country roads nearby and easy access to East Grinstead before progressing towards Crawley.
Crawley Down
With Crawley so close, we can work in the Crawley area straight away whenever your current level allows it.
Forest Row
Forest Row gives useful country-road experience and easy access towards East Grinstead before progressing into Crawley.
Horley
Horley sits between Redhill, Gatwick and Crawley, giving us access to a particularly useful mix of roads. Lessons can include residential areas, busier roads around Horley and Gatwick, faster roads, roundabouts and more complex junctions.
Being close to both Redhill and Gatwick also means we can experience several different driving environments within the same lesson — from quieter residential roads to busier, faster-moving traffic.
Horsham
Horsham is a fairly large town with plenty of opportunities to develop the skills needed to become a confident driver. If your practical test is booked in Crawley, lessons will then place more focus on the Crawley area so you can build useful local knowledge before test day.
Travelling between Horsham and Crawley also gives useful experience of both country roads and dual carriageways, and these types of roads can form part of practical test routes from Crawley.
Getting ready for Crawley
If Crawley is where you’re taking your practical test, we’ll spend plenty of time in the area before test day. You’ll get to know the local area, use sat-nav, drive independently and experience the types of roads and situations that may come up on the test.
We’ll also use test routes as part of your preparation, mainly because they give us a useful mix of different driving situations and experience.
The aim is to help you deal with whatever comes up, rather than simply memorising a route that may be completely different on your actual test.
